Getting started
WSU Wiki is a community space. As you work, assume that others will come behind you and make contributions, with the goal of improving the space for the community. Wikipedia provides a range of guidelines <link here> for would-be editors of that site, and they should be consulted for user etiquette on this site as well.
Need a couple key points from Wikipedia here, perhaps Theron can add.
Before you edit:
- Check the discussion page
- Look at the history of the page
- See who has contributed to the page
When you edit:
- Preview before saving (prevents multiple small edits)
- Put a note in the summary (it can be longer than the box)
- Check the minor edits box for spelling and cleanup (doesn't alter meanings)
After you edit:
- Watch the page to see what happens next
Guidelines for use
Wiki Usernames and Nicknames
Usernames serve to attribute new contributions or edits to any wiki page. When you login with your WSU Network ID (NID) your username is equal to your NID. This name is displayed in the contribution and editing history for the wiki pages. Other participants in the wiki will see your username.
Through the Preferences page, one can choose a nickname used in signatures, independent of your NID name. The nickname will be the displayed signature of pages created and in the editing history. Your contributions to the wiki will still be linked to your WSU NID and although not displayed to other wiki participants your NID identity will be accessible by the WSU wiki system administrator. Please follow these guidelines when choosing a nickname.
- Do not use nicknames that are names of famous people either living or deceased.
- Do not use nicknames that promote national/racial/religious/ethnic hatred.
- Do not use nicknames that refer to sexual acts or genitalia.
- Do not use nicknames that promote violence or refer to violent actions.
The judgment of whether or not the nickname is unacceptable will be left to the discretion of the WSU wiki system administrator and the administrator reserves to right to remove unacceptable nicknames from the wiki.
Appropriate use policy for WSU
