There are several mechanisms to include RSS in a web page.

Contents

Standard HTML page

  • CTLT is hosting a resource that creates a javascript that you imbed into HTML of a standard web page and it does the RSS to HTML conversion. (Learn more).
  • FeedDigest will convert RSS and Atom to HTML to be included in your web page

Oracle page

There are two mechanisms: General Gator and OmniPortlet. Each involves using a portlet and providing an XSL stylesheet. These are more general solutions than conversting RSS to HTML, they will convert any XML to HTML.

CTLT has created a tool for WSU's implementation of Oracle portal called General Gator that combines an XML file with an XSLT. One example use is rendering RSS, for example the PBJ blog home page. Worked examples of these exist in production myWSU and PBJ. Contact: Phil Scuderi.

SharePoint

Web part page

  • Sharepoint provides an XML webpart that combines an XML file with an XSLT.
  • A 3rd party has provided a wizard to take RSS or Atom and convert to HTML. You can create the necessary webpart with this wizard. (Instructions included.)

Note: Once a webpart has been created, it can be exported from one SharePoint site and imported into another, allowing a fairly simple method of sharing web parts that process RSS.
