You can join a group (in the WSU Wiki sense) by editing your user page. Joining, in the wiki sense, amounts to adding your name to the group's index page -- being public to them and others that you are interested in the group.

How to Join (the wiki way)

1. On the page with the Wiki Group badge (which is how you probably linked here), copy the name of the group from the badge. It looks something like:
   [[Category:Cool Group to Join]].
   
2. Log in to WSU Wiki (link in upper right corner)
3. Go to your User Page (link is your username in the tool bar (upper right, to the left of login/logout).
4. Edit your user page and paste in the text you copied previously.
5. Save your page.
