Features
- Web Browsing: Based off of Internet Explorer, this browser will get you where you need to go. The default search engine is set to Bing, but you are free to use whatever you wish. It uses pinch zooming on web pages, and you can turn the Zune HD on its side for a wider view. It also uses a standard digital QWERTY keyboard.
- Apps: There are a few apps for the Zune right now, to include a calculator, weather conditions, and a few others. But when it comes down to it, the Zune HD lacks the massive amount of apps that makes the iTouch and iPhone so infamous.
- HD Radio: There is a tuning device that lets you pick up regular FM channels and Digital HD FM channels on the Zune HD. The HD Radio gives a higher sound quality and you can tag songs that play on the station, so you can look them up and download them later.
- Games: The Zune HD features games such as Audiosurf Tilt, Vans Sk8: Pool Service and Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition. They make use of the Nvidia Tegra graphic processor and the accelerometer. At this time, all games are either developed in house or very closely with third parties, developers are not free to create their own games for the Zune HD yet.
- HD Video: As far as video is concerned, the Zune HD can play digital media at 480p at a 16:9 aspect ratio on its 480 x 272 screen. With the additional purchase of an AV Dock, you can output video at 720p to a HD TV. It supports the codecs H.264, WMV, and MPEG-4 up to 720p.
- Music: When it comes to music, the Zune HD has plenty to offer. It supports WMA, MP4, M4A, M4B, and MP3. You can look up information on artists, and some of that info will show up as a screen saver when you are listening to music.
