Definition

Web 3.0 behaves and acts as if you had a person assistant. It is hypothesized that while you search the internet the browser will learn more about what you’re interested in and store that within its database. Its purpose is to make the search for things you want to be easier. It wants to destroy the need for multiple searches to find what you need. For example you could ask your browser a question such as

“What video game should I be playing”

and based on the previous search information and facts your browser has collected about you, it would respond with something that caters to you. In comparison to today you visit many different hyperlinks and pages before you find the information you need, imagine the difference if you could ask it a simple question and get an immediate result.

Overview

Web 3.0 will make use of the mounds of data that are available on the internet and help people ease the difficulty of finding exactly what you need. In fact some internet experts would argue that with Web 3.0 the user doesn’t have to much work at all. However there still must be the input of the question. Web 3.0 will analyze the question placed within the input and then combine data with previous searches and information about the user to create an answer tailored to the user.

With Web 3.0 you will be able to ask your browser,

“I have only 30 dollars and I need a video game”

and get a response tailored just for you based on your interests.

Some experts believe that there will be a new language developed for Web 3.0. Many believe that it is a form of a previously conceptualized idea called the Semantic Web. The Semantic Web is a technology that allows data be shared and reused across many different applications or enterprises or social networks – it allows for data to be unrestricted. Before an individual had to travel to many different websites to get the information that he or she could want. But what Semantic Web will do is bring that data all onto one platform and make accessing the data way easier.

Web 3.0 or the technologies that make up Web 3.0 such as the Semantic Web are not anything different from the World Wide Web, they are simply enhancements that give the internet far more utility. It utilizes all the tags and all the data and enriches the user experience.

There are also discussions about making a 3D Web however those are still not solidified.

History

Web 2.0 is the mother of Web 3.0; it consisted of granting people the ability to make changes to web pages, or allowing people to make product reviews on product as seen on Amazon.com. Web 2.0 also helped people connect together using social networking sites (such as Facebook). It allowed people to share content really easily with products such as the really simple syndication and sites such as Vimeo and YouTube. Twitter is also another part of web 2.0, combining phone usage with the use of the internet to communicate to more people more easily. Here are simple definitions for you to help you understand the stepping stones for Web 3.0:

Web 1.0 – Imagine a file cabinet with information

Web 2.0 – Imagine a social party with people coming in and out

Web 3.0 – Imagine having a personal assistant or agent that understands and caters to your needs.

Web 2.0 does not necessarily understand the user. Even though Amazon.com may be able to suggest products to the user because of previous purchases, it doesn’t fully understand or comprehend what the Web 3.0 user wants. Therefore Web 3.0 is moving beyond the limits of Web 2.0 and creating a brand new experience.
