Christopher Bridges

Christopher Brian Bridges born November 11, 1977 is a world renowned musician from Atlanta, Georgia. Recognized more easily as his stagename, "Ludacris,"[1]] he has been an icon in the hip hop industry since he went triple platinum with his breakthrough album "Back For The First Time," in 2000. Along with being a musician, he is an actor, entrepreneur and CEO of his own record label, Disturbing the Peace. His latest project began in 2007 when he began to create an online social service for aspiring artists and musicians.

WeMix

WeMix is an online social service created by Ludacris and his label Disturbing the Peace that is available to any of us free of charge. It is an online community of unsigned music artists, songwriters, producers or simply just someone what wants to explore new music. This website is very easy to use. First go the homepage and click on the red box titled join. Follow the instructions and in just a few minutes you are a member. You can immediately begin uploading your audio and video files. WeMix is the people's record label. Any member can upload their music to the web page and show it to the world. Depending on the quality, which is determined by the people, aspiring artists can turn their demo into a major record. Any artist has a chance to prove themselves online. Regardless if you are musically talented, members can still make an impression by voting and rating their top songs and artists. It is a collaborative effort among the WeMix community. The people have the power to influence decisions through rating and reviews. This website is a win win situation for both the record labels and the unsigned artists. Instead of a record label releasing a song without really knowing if it will be a hit or miss, they can now make more informed decisions based on the reviews and ratings of the WeMix community. As for the artists, anyone has a chance to prove themselves without going through the traditional music path of auditions, studio time, etc.

WeMix and Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is the transformation of the web from a single platform, to a collaboration of millions of web sites and services through hyperlinking.[2] Web 2.0 provides users to file share, socially network, create blogs, and collaborate in just about anything you can think of. Without Web 2.0, WeMix could not exist. The collaboration of users on WeMix rely on the concepts of Web 2.0 to promote their music. The thousands of WeMix users are all actively participating in a social, online community that is solely driven on user traffic. Ten years ago, to become a major music artist, one would have to take a route that is far more difficult than it is today. Back then, it was all about how much money you have and who you know, politics. Now any member regardless of their worth, can make a name for themselves. This community is a democracy as artists are ranked by the people for who they like most. This creates better music as major labels can follow the latest trends of what the people like and want. WeMix is a product of Web 2.0 that has opened up a new market for unsigned, aspiring music artists free of charge.

Ludacris Speaks

“There’s so much talent that never sees the light of day because of the traditional way we discover artists; I felt it was time to take music back where it belongs – in the streets and with the people,” said Ludacris. “It doesn’t matter what type of music you’re into, at WeMix.com it’s an open playing field. We want to hear everything that’s out there and let the people guide us in deciding which new artists get their shot to collaborate with stars and record a song. Even if you can’t sing or play an instrument, WeMix.com gives you the chance to make music and influence decisions through voting and reviews. It truly is the people’s record company.”[3]
