I have a beef with "too much can be detrimental". It's not that too much is detrimental. It's just that too much, without organization, becomes confusing and problematic. If you keep your thoughts and documents well organized (either chronologically or by topic) then cross-listing or archiving becomes a snap. I mean, take this wiki for example. There is a huge amount of information here and because of its organization (a little bit goes a long ways when you add reference links and the like) you can get pretty detailed information and learn a lot about a topic in a short time.
