  • NOTES: ePortfolios for UI AmeriCorps folks (4H Extension, Erin Dooling & Tim Ewers). Silhouette is only a piece of the solution they are looking for, ePortfolio may be the whole thing. Their first step is to flesh out their expected outcomes, eligible artifacts and evaluation process. Once there, an ePortfolio platform may be the right tool for the job. First, it would allow flexible and personalized environment for members' reflection on their service experiences (learning, achievements, challenges, etc.) Second, it would allow for collection and presentation of evidence related to the impact of a member's work on the community whuich he or she serves. UI AmeriCorps is about as far into the process as WSU Career Services and Campus Involvement, i.e. in the brainstorming and pre-planning phase, so sharing of their experience in progressing through this process may be highly valuable to each of these units...(just a thought).   • One of the article's main criticisms of ePortfolio applications in higher education is that such applications have been inadequate with regard to the reflective function of ePortfolios. This is based on the premise that reflection on one's learning is the "most important part of the learning process." I am not sure whether this is a valid assumption, and would offer a potential counter-premise: that reflection is an important part of the TEACHING process. What I mean is, while my reflection of personal learning experience may certainly be of value to me, it may be of even greater value if I am doing it for someone else, who is learning from me. In this sense, reflection on learning process is a process of sharing in the basic sense; specifically, it is the process of teaching by example -- example of one's trials, mistakes, and successes.
