Scale Model Overview
2006 marks the first year Solar Splash has done scale model testing. Using a 1:4 scale we made a hydrofoil boat that was tested in a water flume indoors. Thanks to the help of the CE department and allowing us access to this flume we were able to confirm the theory and test the dynamic stability of surface piercing hydrofoils. We were highly encouraged!
We used Donald Young's "A Brief Introduction to Fluid Mechanics" as a reference for lift, drag, and similitude methods.
