What is MySpace and Facebook?

MySpaceis a social network website that allows people to communicate through blogs, emails, chat rooms and user main pages. On the main pages they can post pictures and videos that allow them to share their information with as many people as they want in one full swoop. Much the same but with its own differences Facebookis also a social networking website that allows users to post their photos, videos , play games and more.

Differences

Searching Users

When searching MySpace you will need to know the user's screen name or email address in advance. Rarely is the actual name of the person used as an identifying feature. Some do use their actual names, but it is more common to see a screen name. Facebook allows you to search by first name, last name or both.

Using the site

MySpace is more music centric, where artists could showcase thier work and spread the word. Whereas Facebook leans more towards games, quirky quizzes, and passing trinkets. Facebook pages are in a locked format in which users can add to the format, but cannot change it. MySpace allows users the freedom to what they want with their page allowing for more creativity.

Security

The user's page on MySpace is much more open to the public exposing the user to future employers, pedophiles and much more. Facebook is criticized for lack of security but they do allow the user to block their page from the general public. You can only view the user's information, photos and videos if you are an accepted friend of the user, unless the user chooses an unlocked page.

Statistics

~In January, Facebook had 100.7 million unique international visitors compared to MySpace's 109.3 million; a difference of just 8% compared to a year ago when the difference was nearly 400%.[2]
