Summary
Mozilla Firefox is an open source browser designed for the Mozilla Application Suite and managed by the Mozilla Corporation. Firefox is currently the second most popular browser on the market. In May 2009 it had 22.51% of the usage share for web browsers. The only browser used more often is Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox has made revolutionary changes to how the web is displayed on a computer. The Mozilla Corporation uses the Gecko Layout Engine to display web pages. The Gecko web engine uses several current standards and several designed for future innovation. Firefox is able to run on many different operating systems from Windows, to Mac OS X, and Linux, there are even open source projects designed to work on specific Unix environments. Along with Firefox browsing the web differently it also implements several new features.
Features
Since its first version Firefox has been an ever expanding open source platform. This platform is continually adapting to the needs of both its everyday users and its more advanced participants. Some features included with Firefox are tabbed browsing, spell checker, incremental find, live bookmarking, an integrated download manager, keyboard shortcuts, and an integrated search system that uses the user's desired search engine.

Firefox Portable Edition was developed by PortableApps.com based upon the open source platform of Mozilla Firefox. 2.0 (Bon Echo) - Added new features such as session restoration after a browser crash, search suggestion for Google and Yahoo!, new search plugin manager and add-on manager, web feed previewing, bookmark microsummaries and anti-phishing protection. Winstripe theme refresh. Included support for JavaScript 1.7. Reached its end of life on December 18, 2008 with the release of Firefox 2.0.0.20.
Mozilla Firefox 3.0
3.0 (Gran Paradiso) - Added - Cairo used as a graphics backend. Cocoa Widgets included in OS X builds. APIs implemented from WHATWG specs. Changes to how DOM events are dispatched, how HTML object elements are loaded, and how web pages are rendered. New SVG elements and filters, and improved SVG specification compliance. Acid2 test compliant. New UI improvements, including default themes for different operating systems and new download manager. Windows 95, 98, ME, Mac OS X v10.3.9[57] and lower, and GTK+ 2.8 and lower no longer supported. Addons.mozilla.org integration in the Add-ons window. Support for APNG files.
