The Library in your Room

The Library in your Room

This is a quick layover leading you to the most important places to stop first when first doing your research! Set this as your homepage for easy access to Griffin, the article index and e-journals page, subject resources and more...

What about the Internet?

What about using the Internet to do your research?

There are two types of Internet out there: The Surface Internet and The Invisible Web:

  1. The Surface Internet covers about 10% of what is out there. These pages are accessible via search tools like Google and Yahoo. Don't limit your searching to these pages only. You might find articles or webpages that appear to be useful, but there are no rules or laws for posting information on the Internet and much of what is out there is incorrect and needs to be verified by other means.

When using the Surface Web you will want to apply these criteria to help you evaluate your resources: Evaluating Information Sources: How do you know if they are good?

  2. The Invisible Web is accessible via the WSU Library website. These are the Article Indexes and E-Journals that your tuition money helps pay for! Using these resources will lead you to some of the most important resources you might use for your papers and projects. These resources might never be found on the surface web!

Or use The Library in your Room as a bookmark to help you remember where to go first!

Fun in the Library?

Here in the WSU Libraries there are all sorts of fun and interesting things to see and do:

  • Atrium Concert Series: from noon-1pm most Fridays in the Atrium of Holland and Terrell Library
  • Videos, DVDs and CDs in the library collection: Limit your Griffin Searching to media only by using the pull-down menu and selecting "WSU Media."
  • Digital Collections: Check out our Digital Collections page. Link to articles, historic maps and photos and all sorts of other great stuff.
