What is it?
Google Adsense is a service provided by Google. Adsense places targeted advertisements on your websites while giving you advertising revenue. Many small websites use Adsense to generate some money to pay for hosting. It's easy to obtain and very low maintenance.
History
Gilad Elbaz and Adam Weissman started a company called Oingo Inc. back in 1998. Oingo developed a search algorithm based on the definition of words and an underlying lexicon called WordNet. WordNet had previously developed over the past 15 years by researchers led by George Miller at Princeton University. In 2001 Oingo had its name changed to Applied Semantics.
Google would later acquire this company in April of 2003 for 102 million dollars.
