Purpose of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Enhancement-grants program

The Enhancement-grants program intends to enhance research and academic activities done by or about Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and to assist in professional development of association members. The AAPI Faculty and Staff Association funds and supports the program as an effort to enhance diversity at Washington State University.


Selection Criteria

  • Activities that enhance awareness of the complexity and diversity faced by Asian American and Pacific Islander in higher education, especially the status, experiences, and issues of AAPI faculty and staff on American campuses.
  • Activities that explore inter-group and intra-group race relations with the potential for leveraging academic and community efforts in attaining social justice.
  • Activities that analyze and assess policies and practices that ensure access and equity for Asian American and Pacific Islander in higher education, with attention to under-represented and at-risk ethnic groups.
  • Activities that enhance the effort of curriculum integration by highlighting work by and about Asian American and Pacific Islander that more fully and accurately reflects their experiences.
  • Research or academic activities conducted by AAPI faculty.
  • Activities include but not limited to research, studies, professional development, and teaching.


Type of Proposal

Please check one that best describe your proposal:

Enhancement research grant (EX: research done by or about AAPI.)

Enhancement teaching grant (EX: development of a new course, revision of an existing course.)

Professional development grant (EX: Participation and/or presentation at conferences.)


Funding Guidelines

The Enhancement-grant proposal may include request to fund publication cost, research materials, travel expenses, or student support (wages). This program will not fund salaries. Faculty and staff of Washington State University are encouraged to submit a proposal for an amount no more than $500. Proposed activities should occur between May 1, 2006 and April 30, 2007.

Proposals from previously funded grants are not eligible. AAPI Grant recipients of 2003-2004 are not eligible to apply this year. A final report from each grant will be required after grant has been fulfilled. We anticipate to fund 6 to 8 projects this year.


Proposal Format

  1. Attach a copy of the applicant’s vitae of no more than two pages.
  2. Describe the activities in 400-500 words, including the timeline of the activities.
  3. Describe how the activities might enhance the university diversity’s effort and more specifically on how it might impact the Asian American Pacific Islander community.
  4. Describe the budgetary requirement for the program. Itemize expenses and revenue associated with the activity.
  5. Describe ways to share and disseminate research findings, teaching materials, or conference proceedings, etc.


Proposal Submission

Submit the grant proposal electronically in Microsoft Word files by April 15, 2006 to wanghong@wsu.edu. Contact person: Dr. Holly Wang, AAPI Enhancement Grant Program Coordinator, 335-8521.


Decisions

The AAPIFSA committee and the Grant Program Coordinator will review the proposals and make funding decisions. The award notice will be sent out by April 30, 2006.
