Overview
3D Internet is an interactive 3D virtual content provider for the internet that is still currently in development. It has similar characteristics to Second Life, however, it provides users with a more practical experience for real world applications. Its services range from 3D Interactive Training Simulators, 3D application simulations, Design & Marketing, Virtual Tours and Online Shopping. It is also currently working on services that will allow one to participate in 3D job fairs, and the ability to collaborate with others entirely in a 3D world.
Interactive Features
Hyper-Reality - This means that the developers have created an interface that allows one to view the internet as a physical place. When inside the 3D virtual world, it is much like the experience of a modern virtual simulation or video game.
3D Training - Through this feature, one can be walked through online 3D simulations of many kinds. These simulations serve as a "how to" guide for real world applications.
3D Collaboration - 3D collaboration means that meetings can be held within an online virtual conference room.
3D Studio Productions - This feature allows companies to create visual works of their own for other users to view and experience.
3D Shopping- Allows users to visually inspect the item before purchase, without physically going to a store.
Advantages
A 3D Internet could change the way people live. Information can now be experienced instead of merely read about. People can simulate out different scenarios for anything that is in question. 3D internet allows the unknown to be better understood. The simulations may not predict one hundred percent the correct outcome, though, it gives people a better understanding of what may actually occur in the real world. The ability to connect and communicate among each other will reach new heights.
Virtual Worlds
Virtual worlds come in many forms and serve many different functions. One such use is for extensive research on domestic populations to predict future actions in the economy etc. Advertising and investing in these worlds proves to be another valuable concept. Gartner Research predicted that 80% of all active Internet users will have a virtual-world presence by 2011. Companies have already jumped on the opportunities that virtual worlds present. Already, $345 million was invested in 39 virtual world-related companies in the first half of 2008. With more and more people joining these online worlds, we will see more money being invested by real world businesses.
