Setup Survey

Setup_Survey_Icon.jpg These instructions cover the simplest survey use. For more help, see the comprehensive list of kinds of surveys.

There are only two things you need to setup a survey:

Survey Title
This will be the name that you and the people taking your survey see that identifies your survey. Titles less than about 50 characters are best.
Description
This is the information that people taking the survey will see before they begin. (You can include HTML in this.)

Video Demo of the process:

  1. Click Create. (You can put surveys into folders, learn more about folders.)
  2. Give your survey a title, click Next.
  3. Click Properties and give the people taking your survey an introduction and some instructions in the area called "Description"

Write Questions

There are three things you need to know to write questions:

Copy/Paste
You can draft your survey in a word processor and copy/paste pieces into the authoring interface.
Pages
Questions can be separated onto pages, which can help focus respondents' attention.
Compound Questions
Questions can have compound parts, called Elements. (Learn more)

The simplest way to send the survey is to give others the URL to the survey (which was created for "Single URL Delivery."

Given that the URLs are long, it may be desirable to place them on a web page or send via email. If you need to write the URL of the survey for others to copy down, consider using the services of TinyURL.com to shorten and simplify the URL.

To get to the URL for the survey, from the Manage Survey page, choose Respondents to reach the Respondent Pool List page. The URL to the survey will be visible in each respondent pool (each pool set for single URL delivery, otherwise, go into the respondent pool to see the Respondent List.)
