If you are the sort that wants to try the system, here is a cookbook.

Blue words are links to pages with more information. Notes will point you to the places you may want to go later.

A. Login, start creating your survey

  1. Log in. (Your account is created automatically)
  2. You are in your personal survey folder viewing a list of surveys (a blank list if you are new)
  3. Click New Button (below the words Personal Survey Folder (HOME) )
  4. Title your survey (Respondents will see what you type here.)
  5. You are in the Survey Manager (the home) for this survey.
  6. Click on Questions button
  7. You are now in the (draft) question editor.
  8. Look 1/2 way down the page for Add Question (There is more to know about questions (they can have parts) but that is for later.)
  9. Choose a Question Type, fill it in, click Save in the lower right. (If you want to see what a question type looks like don't fill it in, just choose "Save", then edit it (pencil tool) or delete it.)

B. When you have entered your questions, return to the survey manager. Your authoring saves automatically as you go.

  1. Find the "bread crumbs" near the top of the page they will read SurveyList > [Name of your survey] > Survey Editor
  2. Click the name of your survey in the "bread crumbs"
  3. In the Survey Manager, click Respondents
  4. You are in the Respondent Pool List, click the "Add" button. (The idea of Respondent Pools, is you can have more than one group of respondents and group or keep them separate for analysis.)
  5. Title your respondent pool (e.g., "First Pool") and "save" in the lower right.
  6. Double click the respondent pool name you just created.
  7. In the bottom center of the Respondent Pool Properties click "URL"
  8. A Copy the URL into a new browser window, open your survey, and (if you want to test the data colletion), respond to your own questions.
