Enabling Windows Firewall
A properly functioning firewall is integral to the safety of both your computer and the integrity of the Washington State University's network. There are many different brands and types of firewalls that can be used successfully, however, on Microsoft Windows systems - there is an integrated firewall that should cover your needs. The following directions will guide you through the process on a Windows XP machine and a Windows Vista machine.
- Open up the Control Panel within the Windows Start bar.
- Double-click on the Windows Firewall icon. (If you do not see the screen in such a format, click on "Switch to Classic View" on the right hand side of the window).
- Ensure that your Windows Firewall is on.
If you are using Windows Vista, you can click on Change Settings to go ahead and edit your configuration.
- With Windows Firewall turned on and functioning properly, your computer is one step closer to becoming as secure as possible.
