[[Dragon Naturally Speaking]] cannot read a file for dictation unless it is a 11 or 22 khz mono [[WAV]] file.  The easiest program found for converting files to that format is called [[DbPowerAmp Music Converter]].  To read [[WMA]] files, you need to download the basic program.  The program is a free, though it will try to have the user buy the MP3 encoder, which is unnecessary.  You will also need the WMA codec to convert WMA files, which is available on the DBPowerAmp website.


Once these programs are installed, you can then convert your WMA recordings.  To start, copy or move your files from your recorder to a folder on your computer.  This step can be different depending on the recorder used.

===Converting a WMA file to WAV===

| Find the files from your recorder and select them all.  Right click and choose “Convert To”

| You will see the dBpowerAMP conversion screen.  Make sure to select the format “Wave”, the bitrate “16 Bit (CD)”, the frequency “22050 HZ” and the Channels “1 Mono” to get a proper file for transcription.  Click on convert.

| You will see a status box.  Once the conversion is completed, click Finished.

| In your folder, you will now see two files with the same name.  One is your original file, and the other is the WAV file for NaturallySpeaking.
