Calculated Columns in the grade book

Calculated columns are added by the "create column" button in the main grade book view.

You create and name the column next. In the image below the column calcColumn is being added to the grade book.

The next step in the process is to edit the column formula. This defines which grade book columns comprise the calculation. The grade book columns must already exist and they must be defined as numeric columns.

This view below shows the edit formula view. To create a formula for a calculated column, use the functions, numerals, operators and column references below. To group expressions within your formula, use parentheses. As you create your formula, it appears in the preview box.

The image below shows using the SUM function to add together the scores for three grade book columns.

To complete the process, choose "end function" and save. If you do not choose save, the formula will be lost. It is important when uploading and downloading grade book values that you not upload and overwrite calculated columns or you will have to redo the above steps. Please delete calculated columns from the export first before the import.
