Virtual Private Network
From ctowiki
Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is a secure network created as needed between a user and a server. Common VPN types include PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) and IPSec. Both protocols support 128-bit data encryption. However, the PPTP clients are the easiest to configure (and support PDAs). Most WSU users will want to use a PPTP client. The Cisco IPSec client provides additional security through the use of a certificate.
WSU uses VPN in two ways. First, VPN is used to secure the connection between wireless users and the WSU network. Second, VPN is used for off-campus access to critical WSU system resources. There are a few guides available for setting up a VPN dialer.
