Enable and Disable a Guest Account
Require a Password Upon Login to a User Account
For Windows XP
To begin, you must access the start menu by clicking on Start which is located on the lower left hand corner of your screen. Once you've accessed your start menu, drag your mouse over and select Control Panel.
Once the Control Panel window is open, find and select the icon that says User Accounts and select it.
To Turn Off/On Guest Account
From the User Accounts window, locate the Guest Account
Turn On Guest Account
If your Guest Account is off and you would like to turn it on, select the Guest icon
This will then give you the option of turning on your Guest Account by selecting "Turn On the Guest Account".
Turn Off Guest Account
If your Guest Account is on and you would like to turn it off, select the Guest icon
This will then give you the option of turning off your Guest Account by selecting "Turn off the guest account" to turn it off.
Password Prompt Upon Login
From the User Accounts window, select the user account you would like to set a password to. In this case the User is Test.
From here, select Create a password.
Then make a password for the account and a word or phrase to use as a password hint in case you forget it.
You have now made this account require a password to access it.
For Windows Vista
To begin, you must access the start menu by clicking on the windows icon which is located on the lower left hand corner of your screen. Once you've accessed your windows icon, drag your mouse over and select Control Panel.
Once the Control Panel window is open, find and select the icon that says User Accounts and select it.
To Turn Off/On Guest Account
From the User Accounts window, locate "Manage another account" and select it
Turn On Guest Account
If your Guest Account is off and you would like to turn it on, select the Guest icon
This will then give you the option of turning on your Guest Account by selecting "Turn On".
Turn Off Guest Account
If your Guest Account is on and you would like it off, select the Guest icon.
This will then give you the option of turning off your Guest Account by selecting "Turn off the guest account" to turn it off.
Password Prompt Upon Login
From the User Accounts window, locate "Manage another account" and select it
Then select the user you would like a password to be set to, in this case we will be using Test.
Select "Create a password"
The proceed to follow the directions to create a password and password hint (allows you to leave a hint in case you forget your password). Then proceed to select Create Password at the bottom of the window to finish.
