Linux is a family of open source operating systems that is based off of Unix. Linux is available for many different computer architectures, and can be used for desktop computers, servers, even Xboxes.

Linux is not an officially supported operating system on WSU's network, so there are not many official support options available. WSU does has an active Linux Users Group who are available to solve problems with installing and using Linux, including instructions on using WSUNexus with Linux.

Though viruses for Linux computers are rare, WSU policy requires all computers connected to the network have active antivirus software installed. Symantec has recently released a version of Symantec Antivirus for Linux, which is available for all WSU students who contact the IT Helpdesk.
