Installing and Using Daemon Tools

Daemon Tools is a powerful freeware tool for adding a virtual CD/DVD drive to your computer. These instructions detail installing and using Daemon Tools to mount ISO Files.

All screenshots were taken on a Windows XP Professional computer. Your computer may look slightly different

Obtaining Daemon Tools

You can obtain Daemon Tools for free from their download page. Most (~99%) of users will need the x86 version, which is listed at the top of the page. Please click the download link and save the file to a location you can easily find.

Installing Daemon Tools

Image:Daemon Tools Installer.png Once you have downloaded the file, find where you saved it and double click it. This will begin the installer.
Image:Daemon Tools Setup Wizard.png When the installer has loaded, you will be presented with the setup wizard. Click 'next' to continue.
Image:Daemon Tools License.png Read through the software license. If you agree, click 'I Agree'.
Image:Daemon Tools must restart.png Some users will be prompted to restart their computer to continue. If you are, save all your open work and press 'OK' to continue.
Image:Daemon Tools select components.png Next, you will be asked which components you would like to install. Please Note: The Daemon Tools Search Bar includes a piece of adware that is detected by Symantec Antivirus. It is not crucial to install, so we recommend unchecking this option.
Image:Daemon Tools select location.png If necessary, you can select a specific location for Daemon Tools to be installed. Most users can just click 'Install'.

Mounting an Image

Image:Daemon Tools system icon.png Once you have completed installation of Daemon Tools, you should see a red lightning bolt icon in your system tray.
Image:Daemon Tools left click menu.png Left-Click on the Daemon Tools icon. You should see a list of virutal CD/DVD drives and what files are mounted. Click on the CD drive that you want to associate with an ISO file.
Image:Daemon Tools select image.png Find the ISO file and click Open. If your computer is set to Autorun CDs, the installation/program will automatically run. If not, open up "My Computer" and open the virutal CD drive.
