Firewall

From ctowiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a classification of software intended to prevent unauthorized connections on a computer system. Typically a firewall will prevent all connections which do not behave according to a pre-written exception list. Most modern firewalls will prompt the user to create an exception when a program is detected attempting to make a connection from within the computer. You should not allow programs you are not familiar with to pass through your firewall permanently. Try blocking them first, if the program you were trying to use does not work correctly, next time try allowing the connection temporarily. If this fixes the problem then you can make it permanent next time. If you block the program and nothing breaks, it is possible you may have a virus or spyware on your computer, though this does not mean for sure that you do. A full antivirus scan and spyware scan should reveal any threats which you may have.
