Emergency Notification Information
From ctowiki
Since Summer of 2007, WSU has been collecting emergency notification information. In the event of a campus emergency, WSU will use this information to inform students, staff, and faculty with information and instructions from emergency personnel. This information will only be used for emergency communications, and will not replace your standard address/phone number stored in the WSU directory.
When a student tries to register for courses each semester, they will be prompted to review and correct their emergency notification information. Staff, faculty, and students can also set their emergency notification information through the my Profile section of myWSU.
Setting Your Emergency Notification Information
Students will be prompted the first time they register for a semester to fill/update their emergency notification information. Faculty/Staff can find the page by visiting myWSU, clicking on my Profile, opening the Change address or phone section, and opening the Change Emergency Notification Info section.
| For students, WSU allows for wireless, home, alternate, and parent/guardian phone numbers to be stored for emergency notification. If you have a phone, select the button WSU may notify me in case of an emergency at the following phone number(s). Fill in a phone number you check regularly (long distance is OK, international phone numbers are not).
If you carry a wireless phone, a text message will likely be the quickest, most reliable way to notify people in an emergency. Make sure to click the button allowing WSU to send text messages to your phone and select your cell phone provider from the drop down list. (Note: your cell phone provider might charge you for text messages you receive. Please check with your carrier for more information). If you do not want WSU to notify you via phone/text message in an emergency, please select the button "I do not wish to supply an emergency phone number at this time. I understand that WSU may not be able to notify me via phone in an emergency." | |
| WSU can also notify people in an emergency via email. If you wish to be notified via email, select the button "WSU may notify me in case of an emergency at the following email address" and place your whole email address (user@domain) in the box below. This email address should be one you check often, and does not need to be your @wsu.edu email address. | |
| Select which campus(es) you would like to receive emergency alerts from. It is OK to select more than one!
Select the language in which you prefer to be notified. (Note: WSU will attempt to send emergency notifications using your language of choice, however this will not always be possible. Critical messaged will always be sent in English first. |
