DHCP
From ctowiki
DHCP, short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, is the protocol used by computers to obtain an IP Address. Once a computer has obtained an IP address from a DHCP server, it is able to access features on the network using TCP/IP and UDP.
At WSU, DHCP is used to automatically give 134.121.xxx.xxx IP Addresses to users of ResNET behind Cisco Clean Access. On the WSUNexus wireless network, DHCP will automatically give 172.16.xxx.xxx addresses to computers (users must use a VPN client to access the internet).
However, computers that use a wired ethernet connection in places on WSU Pullman's campus (outside of ResNET) must be registered before they can obtain an IP address through DHCP. Students/Faculty/Staff that would like to use the internet outside the residence halls can read about finding their physical address, then visit the WSU DHCP Registration page and complete the form.
