Extended time on outage - eLearning back online 8 am Fri Oct 2nd
The power outage in the ITS data center this morning went longer than anticipated due to a problem in one of the three power lines. eLearning was on the power line with the extended outage. eLearning servers did not come back on line until 8 am on Friday Oct 2nd instead of 6:30 am the anticipated time. We apologize for the delay.
Power Shutdown by ITS- eLearning down 3-6:30 am Fri Oct 2nd
The eLearning servers are located in the ITS data center. eLearning will be down 3 am to 6:30 am Friday October 2nd during the outage and for 1/2 hour after for restarting the servers after the power is restored.
ITS Data Center Scheduled Shutdown Necessary for Power Upgrade - 3:00 - 6:00 a.m. Friday October 2, 2009 Information Technology Services recently increased the power capacity to the university's Data Center located in the Information Technology Building. To fully utilize this power upgrade and bring it fully online, an entire facility power shutdown is required to test power components and fire alarm systems. This power shutdown and maintenance is scheduled from 3:00 - 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2nd.

Unscheduled Service Outage Thursday March 5th
outage 11:28 to 12:13 March 5, 2009 12:25 PM Due to loss of power eLearning was out of service from 11:28 a.m. Thursday morning until just after noon. Service was restored at 12:13. We apologize for the inconvenience. A power outage caused eLearning outage Monday 7:45 to 11:10 am February 26, 2009 11:14 AM Due to numerous power and network outages this morning on campus the eLearning application was down from 7:45 to 11:10 am. The maintenance described below, scheduled to begin Saturday, January 24 at 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM, will cause logins to eLearning via myWSU to be down. During this maintenance you can log in to eLearning by the direct URL, instead of via myWSU.

May 2008 Service Outage Dates for eLearning

In May 2008, The Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) is planning necessary system maintenance on the eLearning system, Blackboard Learning System CE. All summer Blackboard courses will be impacted.
On Saturday May 31st eLearning will be down from 8 a.m. to noon. This will be a 4-hour outage.
On Friday May 30th eLearning will be inaccessible from 5-7AM as IT Services performs upgrades to network systems across campus.
May 10th maintenance ended early the system was back up at 11 a.m., one hour early.
On Saturday May 10th elearning will be down from very early in the morning 12:05 a.m. (just past midnight Friday) until 12 noon on Saturday. This will be a 12-hour outage.
Unscheduled Outage - Monday April 21st 7 am to 9 am.
At approximately 7AM PDT a power failure in the CTLT server room brought down all systems. The immediate cause was testing a half-hour prior by Facilities Operations to determine if an air supply damper would correctly close during a fire alarm. The test put the servers on UPS backup power. Facilities personnel left the room after that testing, believing the power had been restored. However, it had not. The servers went down when the UPS batteries were exhausted. Facilities Operations restored the power and systems began coming back on line beginning at 8:30. All are back as of 9AM. CTLT will review the incident are revise procedures with Facilities Operations.
eLearning Service Outage Saturday April 19th 8 a.m. to 1 p.m
eLearning will be out of service from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. pacific daylight time on Saturday April 19th for server room maintenance. No logins will be possible to the system during this outage.
Internet Connectivity to WSU March 26th 10 p.m. - midnight
Internet connectivity will be intermittent during this time.

K20 Network Technicians will be working on the core routers in the Spokane area. Internet connectivity will be intermittent during this time. This maintenance may not last the entire time period and services will be restored as soon as possible.

Unexpected eLearning outage 4:16 to 4:43 pm Monday Feb 25th February 25, 2008 4:56 PM eLearning was unexpectedly down from 4:16 to 4:43 p.m. on Monday Feb. 25th. We apologize for the problem. Service Outage Saturday November 24 from 7 to 8 am
eLearning will be down for one hour on Saturday morning of Thanksgiving break week, November 24th from 7 to 8 am pacific time.
We will be making a change to the power cabling in the server room. This supercedes the earlier announcement of a 7 to 10 am outage for short periods.
We have now moved the outage into the one hour window of 7 to 8 am.

To fix a problem on one of the three servers, a server cluster reboot is scheduled for Tuesday October 16th from 1 to 1:30 am PDT.

Blackboard Learning System CE Service Outage Thursday March 15th - Spring Break - 3:30 to 6:30 pm
Unscheduled Outage - Wednesday March 7th - 5:35 to 6:10 p.m.
Due to a loss of power on the WSU Pullman campus on 3-7, the WSU networking switch that controls network access to the WebCT server and all other CTLT servers went down. Anyone trying to login or to continue working from 5:35 to 6:10 pm PST on Wednesday evening would not have access. This was not a WebCT problem. WebCT was up the entire time of the outage. Once the ITS could reboot the networking switch the service was resumed as normal. We apologize for the unscheduled outage.
WebCT Service Outage Friday February 23rd 5 to 11 p.m.
WebCT will be down for server maintenance on Friday evening February 23rd from 5 to 11 p.m. pacific time. We will be applying the fixes for the new daylight savings time change and adding support for the Firefox 2.0 browser for windows. Please plan your work around this outage.

This is to fix the grade book import problem for faculty.

ITS Services Outage - Saturday Jan 13 - short outages 5 to 7 am
ITS Server Network (ServerNet) has experienced outages for the past month and especially this week with daily outages. During these outages, network availability to ITS services were impaired until faulty equipment was reset.
ITS Network Engineers have been working closely with HP to determine the cause of the outages. Although no real solution has surfaced, HP has suggested we replace the lead/head switch which feeds ServerNet with a different model Procurve switch. This switch is set to arrive on campus today Friday 1/12. Once the switch arrives, we will install and configure for its replacement of the troublesome switch. The final installation/configuration is scheduled for Saturday January 13th from 5:00am ˆ 7:00am.
During the time period you will experience several short outages accessing ITS services such as myWSU & Connect.wsu.edu. We anticipate completing the upgrade by 5:30am but still may be working until 7:00am.

Power Outage due to winter windstorm 3 to 7:40 am PT.
A major winter storm with winds up to 70 mph caused a campus wide power failure this morning, 12-15, which was longer than the battery backup for the servers. The service was restored as soon as possible after we again had power. We are sorry for the unscheduled outage. Service was restored at 7:40 am pacific time.

November 28th 5:15 to 5:45 networking outage across WSU campus networks
November 28, the WSU campus is experiencing network problems. Information Technology Services is working to fix the problem. WebCT is up but you may not be able to get to WebCT due to the networking problems. There are also problems with the exchange email server this morning on campus

This outage ran a bit overtime by 15 minutes.
WebCT Service outage Friday October 20th 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Ended early at 6:35 p.m.
Emergency outage October 17th 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
We regret the inconvenience caused by the October 17th 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. emergency WebCT outage. We had detected anomalies on the WebCT server which could threaten the integrity of the database. This emergency outage enabled us to protect the data. We take WebCT out of service only after careful consideration for the people who use the system. In this case, we determined that our first duty was to protect the existing work of many hundreds of people. We know this impacted student work in courses. We do our best to have the system up as much as possible and only remove the system when it is absolutely necessary especially on short notice. We apologize and thank you for your patience.
WebCT outage October 6th 5:30 p.m. - October 7th noon
There is a new service pack upgrade of WebCT 6 that fixes bugs and adds new features to WebCT 6. We are planning to apply this upgrade on October 6th starting at 5:30 p.m. (pacific time). The server will be back in operation by noon Saturday October 7th.
