An unexpected system exception has occurred

This is a known system bug. That error message can happen for any number of reasons. The only way to clear this error is to quit your browser completely and start again.

If you still encounter this problem here are a few things to try in your troubleshooting:

  • ensure your browser is set up correctly according to http://www2.blackboard.com/tuneup
  • ensure you have the correct version of Java installed for the Blackboard system you're using
  • Quit your browser and try it using a different browser (which you've also run through the tuneup below)

Browser crashes or freezes when I go to the login page

This symptom is indicative of a Java version problem.

Please follow the information below to update your Java.

Updating your Java Runtime Environment (JRE) - windows

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Locate all versions of Sun Java, JRE, or JVM.
  4. For each version, click Change/Remove and follow the onscreen instructions.
  5. Download Sun JRE for Windows http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
  6. To install the JRE, accept the license agreement and follow the online and onscreen instructions.

I cannot view all posts

In Blackboard learning system there is a paging preference. The default preference is to show the first ten posts or items on the page. In the lower right corner of the screen, there is a drop down box for pages. It is called

Page: 1(1-10) and has a green arrow next to the drop down.

To change the number of pages displayed, change the drop down to all and click the green arrow button.

This will now display all the posts in the discussion topic.

You can also set the paging preferences for all courses using "my settings". My settings is accessed from the my Classes page. Look in the upper right hand corner in the crimson bar. Choose my settings and then choose "my tool options". Under my tool options, look for "paging" which is near the bottom of the screen. Set your paging here and choose "save" from the bottom of the screen. Choose the my classes tab to return to the main page.

See this wiki page for screen shots showing the "my settings" links.
